AMD Ryzen 9 7945HX3D Zen4 analysis – The fastest mobile gaming processor thanks to 3D V-Cache

After running our tests, it is clear that AMD’s new Ryzen 9 7945HX3D is the fastest gaming processor. Its additional 3D V-Cache makes itself especially known in Full HD resolution and offers a considerable advantage (at times two-figure percentages) in many games compared to the regular Ryzen 9 7945HX and Intel’s mobile HX processors. This is quite the performance, but you do have to question whether users of a high-end gaming laptop will really play games in 1080p resolution. For example, the test device Asus ROG Strix SCAR 17 features a QHD panel and although we did still note a benefit in quite a few games, the difference compared to other processors becomes smaller. Gaming in 4K at the latest is unable to offer any improvement.

The new AMD Ryzen 9 7945HX3D is the fastest mobile gaming CPU on the market which additionally offers 3D V-Cache and an has especially large advantage over its competitors when it comes to gaming in 1080p resolution. Its advantage already becomes more limited in QHD resolution.

All-in-all, its pure CPU performance is identical to the regular Ryzen 9 7945HX and especially its multi-core efficiency in comparison to Intel’s HX processors is phenomenal. Even with a fixed 80-watt power limit, the Ryzen is still faster than Intel’s Core i9-13980HX at 150 watts. The same can be said for the regular Ryzen 9 7945HX without 3D V-Cache. The new processor does come with a disadvantage: Due to the HX3D processor’s surface texture, no liquid metal can be used. Its weaker cooling makes this noticeable, as the SCAR 17 with the normal Ryzen 9 7945HX has a bit of an advantage when it comes to maximum CPU performance.
